Fin4U is an iPhone app that reads your receipts, lists the items and prices, and helps you track your own spending and split costs with a friend or roommate. This page explains what happens to your information.
When you scan a receipt or choose one from your photos, only that one image is sent over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection to Fin4U's server, which passes it to Anthropic, the company behind Claude, an AI model that reads the receipt and returns the items, prices, tax, date and merchant. The server sends the result back to your phone.
Please don't scan receipts that show information you wouldn't want an AI service to process, such as full card numbers or other people's personal details.
| Information | Where it lives |
|---|---|
| Your expenses, items, categories and totals | On your phone only |
| A copy of each receipt photo you saved | On your phone only |
| Names of the people you split with, and who owes what | On your phone only |
| Your name and profile photo (optional) | On your phone only |
Fin4U has no account system and no copy of your data on a server, so it can't recover your expenses if you delete the app or lose your phone. Deleting the app removes all of it. You can also delete a single expense at any time by swiping it away.
Fin4U is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them.
If this policy changes in a way that affects you, the new version will be posted here with a new effective date, and the app will tell you before it sends data in a new way.
